Reading for Pleasure
We were blown away by the response to our Book Fair this week - thank you! We loved seeing all of the pictures from our ‘Reading in Unusual Places’ Competition and it really was difficult to pick from them.
If you can encourage your child to read for pleasure, they will really reap the benefits. It might not seem like a particularly important task, but actually, research shows that reading for pleasure can be directly linked to children’s success throughout their time at school and even into adulthood.
Reading for pleasure opens up new worlds for children. It gives them the opportunity to use their imagination to explore new ideas, visit new places and meet new characters. Interestingly, reading for pleasure also improves children’s well-being and empathy. It helps them to understand their own identity, and gives them an insight into the world and the views of others.
Please remember that our children have access to a number of online books through BugClub and MyOn and there are lots of activities on Doodle to help build our reading skills to support them to have the opportunities to read for pleasure.

World Festivals and Celebrations
World Refugee Day recognises the courage and contributions of refugees worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes. It’s a reminder of the need for compassion and support for displaced individuals, advocating for their rights and protection.
Look at some of the things we have been getting up to in the last 2 weeks (remember to keep checking Seesaw and Class Dojo for class updates):
We’re nearing the end of the year and I can’t quite believe how quick it has gone! It seems to go quicker every year! It’s probably because we want to fill the year with so much and can’t quite fit it all in! Each time I come to write a newsletter, I realise that I find it so hard to pick out one highlight! In a fortnight period there are so many highlights:
KS2 Outdoor Adventure Day
EYFS exploring in their nature garden and finding lots of creatures to show me (they may have enjoyed this more than me - not the biggest fan of insects but seeing their faces made it worth while!)
Our Book Fair (our first one in a number of years and what a success it was!)
Urban Crew’s trip out to the Care Home
Year 2’s trip to Formby Beach
Year 6’s Leavers’ Service at Manchester Cathedral
… and that’s just the highlights! The children never fail to make the most of their time here at All Saints, as do the teachers, filling the days with so many learning opportunities.
In a few weeks your child’s report will be coming out and this next few weeks, I will have the pleasure of reading them all before they get to you. This is always a particular highlight for me to see how well they have done throughout the year.
Thank you for all of the support during the book fair this week. Thanks to your support, many of your children have new books to read at home and we have managed to raise a whopping £565 for school to spend on new books! We are blown away! Thank you! A highlight of the week for me was when a Year 4 child came into school 2 days later telling us that he had read the whole book already that he had bought at the book fair. Yet again, this is sharing that love of reading and will support your child in their learning. Watch this space for it to return next year!
I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend, whatever you have planned.
